Anne-Françoise Spinoit 

is full pediatric and reconstructive urologist in the department of Urology at the Ghent University Hospital, Ghent , Belgium and Professor at the Ghent University (2018)

Anne-Françoise was born on the 28th of November in Vilvoorde, Belgium. 
Her grand-father, Willy Wese, as a surgeon and gynecologist, performed the delivery and brought her to life.

At the age of 8 months, Anne-Françoise and her parents moved to Washington DC, USA, as her father was awarded a scholarship at Georgetown University. 
She spent her initial 3 years in the DC area. 

Back to Belgium, she went to school at the Collège du Sacré-Coeur, in Charleroi,  where she graduated in 1998 from the Latin-Greek section.

She received her initial medical training at the Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix in Namur  , Belgium, and in the Université Catholique de Louvain, Brussels, Belgium  where she graduated in Medecine in 2006 (Diplôme de Médecine, Chirurgie et Accouchements).

She started her residency with two initial years (2006-2008) of General surgery and urology at the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi (GHdC)  and  then (2008-2009) in the Hôpital de Jolimont. It was in Jolimont that Anne-Françoise won her first scientific award  and wrote her first publication.

She then started (2009-2010) her training in urology and kidney-pancreatic transplant in France at the CHU Amiens-Picardie in France .
Professor Jacques Petit  was head of the Department and made sure to broaden her surgical education to the world of transplant, together with Professor Xavier Tillou.

She finished (2010-2013) her initial training in Urology at the Ghent University Hospital with Professor Piet Hoebeke as a mentor and head of Department   and obtained the Belgian Urology accreditation, but also the European Association of Urology Board certification and gained the title of Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU)

During the last year of her residency, she went for a 6 months (2013) rotation to the OLV hospital in Aalst to benefit from Professor Alex Mottrie’s  experience in robotic surgery.rologist, she started the official 2 years pediatric urology fellowship in Ghent University Hospital, as certified centre by the ESPU.

During this fellowship, Anne-Françoise went for a 3 months Clinical visit at the Leeds children’s Hospital, in the Pediatric Surgery Department  where Professor Ramnath Subramaniam consultants/mr-ramnath-subramaniam initiated her to robotics in children.

She also went to the Sisters of the Charity Clinic in Linz, Austria  thanks to a FWO Grant (2016) to improve her hypospadias and ultrasound skills.

Anne-Françoise defended successfully her PhD about penile congenital malformations on September 11th 2015.  Her promotors were Prof. Piet Hoebeke and Prof. Erik Van Laecke  who took over from Piet Hoebeke as head of Department in March 2018.

She obtained the Certification from the European Board for Pediatric Urology, thereby becoming in 2016 a Fellow of the European Association of Urology (FEAPU).

Since 2015, she’s working as a full time pediatric and reconstructive urologist in Ghent University Hospital, with special interests in minimally invasive surgery, continence, and congenital penile malformations.
